Overview:

Hydroxycitric acid ((-)-HCA) is an important organic acid. It is a derivative of citric acid. It is contained in many natural hibiscus plants. Its molecular formula is C6H8O8. It is composed of polyols and polybasic acids. The highly active molecules can not only prepare health products such as calcium salts and potassium salts with high content per unit molecule, but also use their multi-active functional groups as prodrug intermediates for some new drugs; they can also be used to prepare non-toxic products through esterification reactions. It is mainly found in the fruit shells of Garcinia cambogia, Garciniaindica and Garciniaatroviridis, which are abundant in the Indian subcontinent and western Sri Lanka.
